The Lycra Company has introduced its latest denim innovation, Lycra® VintageFX Fiber, at Kingpins Amsterdam, marking a strategic push to merge heritage-inspired aesthetics with advanced stretch technology for modern apparel manufacturing.
Launched during the April 2026 edition of the Kingpins Amsterdam trade show, the fiber is designed to recreate the authentic look and character of vintage rigid denim while preserving the comfort, elasticity and shape retention associated with contemporary stretch fabrics. The company said the development targets a fast-growing segment of the denim market driven by demand for relaxed silhouettes and nostalgic design influences.
Industry interest in vintage-style denim has accelerated in recent seasons as brands respond to shifting consumer preferences toward wider fits, looser construction and garments that offer both comfort and visual character. Lycra said VintageFX Fiber has been engineered to support these trends by delivering a more authentic worn-in appearance without compromising performance standards expected in mass production.

A key feature of the fiber is its ability to help manufacturers reduce reliance on intensive finishing processes traditionally used to achieve aged denim effects. The company also highlighted performance benefits such as improved fabric stability and reduced deformation over time, addressing common issues like bagging in stretch denim garments. These attributes are expected to be particularly relevant for premium denim brands as well as high-volume fashion retailers seeking durable yet fashion-forward materials.
Kingpins Amsterdam, one of the global denim industry’s most influential sourcing and innovation platforms, has increasingly become a launch venue for material science advancements that shape upcoming fashion cycles. This year’s edition brought together mills, brands and textile technology providers focused on sustainability, performance innovation and next-generation fabric development.
Lycra said VintageFX Fiber will initially be introduced through selected manufacturing partners before a broader commercial rollout across international denim supply chains, with adoption expected across both premium and mainstream segments as demand for hybrid performance-vintage fabrics continues to grow.
