Bangladesh’s green garment manufacturing drive gained further momentum as two Gazipur-based factories: MNR Sweaters Limited and Fashion Floor Limited, secured LEED certification, taking the country’s total number of LEED-certified readymade garment (RMG) units to 275.
MNR Sweaters Limited achieved platinum certification under the LEED O+M: Existing Buildings v4.1 rating system with a score of 85, while Fashion Floor Limited earned gold certification under the LEED BD+C: New Construction v4 rating system with a score of 71. With the latest additions, 116 factories now hold platinum status, 140 are gold-rated, 15 are silver-rated, and four are certified.
Bangladesh continues to dominate global rankings in sustainable apparel manufacturing, hosting 69 of the world’s top 100 LEED-certified garment factories, including 18 of the top 20. Industry insiders said around 550 more factories are currently in the pipeline awaiting certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC).

The country’s RMG sector recorded a milestone in 2025 by securing 38 new LEED certifications, the highest in a single year, reflecting growing investment in energy efficiency, water stewardship, and low-carbon infrastructure.
Mohiuddin Rubel, managing director of Bangladesh Apparel Exchange, said the milestone strengthens Bangladesh’s global image as buyers increasingly prioritise ESG compliance and low environmental footprints in sourcing decisions.
“LEED certification is now a competitiveness tool, not just a sustainability benchmark,” he said, adding that the industry is preparing for stricter global regulations and carbon-related requirements.
Manufacturers say the transition to green buildings, though initially costly, lowers long-term operational expenses while reinforcing Bangladesh’s position as a leading sustainable apparel sourcing hub.
