BASF Acquires Full Control of Alsachimie

BASF has acquired DOMO Chemicals’ 49% share in the Alsachimie joint venture, becoming the sole owner of the production facility in Chalampé, France. This move consolidates BASF’s position as a key player in the production of essential polyamide (PA) 6.6 precursors, including KA-oil, adipic acid, and hexamethylenediamine adipate (AH salt). Financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed.

With complete control over Alsachimie, BASF significantly strengthens its operational capabilities at the Chalampé site – its main European hub for PA 6.6 production. The acquisition is a strategic step in enhancing backward integration, improving supply reliability, and boosting overall efficiency across the PA 6.6 value chain.

The deal also aligns with DOMO Chemicals’ long-term strategy to focus on customized polyamide solutions for key sectors such as automotive, consumer goods, industrial applications, and electronics.

This latest acquisition follows BASF’s recent investments to reinforce its polyamide production infrastructure. Notably, the company inaugurated a state-of-the-art hexamethylenediamine (HMD) plant at Chalampé and expanded PA 6.6 polymerization capacity at its nearby Freiburg site in Germany.

The full ownership of Alsachimie marks a significant milestone in BASF’s commitment to secure its leadership in the engineering plastics sector.
