BGBA Wins Legal Recognition as Mandatory Trade Body for Registration

1 Min Read

The Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association has secured a major institutional breakthrough after a High Court directive reinstated mandatory membership certification for buying houses seeking registration, reinforcing its authority as the sector’s official trade body.

The decision follows an order from the High Court Division on a writ petition, alongside directives issued by the Ministry of Textiles and Jute. Under the new directive, applicants must submit a certified copy of membership from a recognized trade organization to obtain registration from the Department of Textiles.

Crucially, the order formally recognizes BGBA as the designated trade body responsible for issuing such certification, restoring a requirement that had been withdrawn under a 2022 directive.

Industry stakeholders say the reinstatement is expected to bring greater structure, transparency, and accountability to Bangladesh’s buying house sector, which plays a pivotal role in connecting global apparel brands with local manufacturers.
