China Warns Nations Not to Sign Trade Deals with US at Its Expense

China has issued a stern warning to countries considering trade agreements with the United States that could undermine its interests. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated that it would “firmly oppose” any such deals and would take “reciprocal countermeasures” against nations that engage in such agreements. This warning follows reports that the Trump administration is pressuring countries to reduce trade with China in exchange for tariff exemptions. The U.S. has raised tariffs on Chinese imports to as high as 145%, prompting Beijing to retaliate with duties of 125% on U.S. goods. China’s Commerce Ministry criticized the U.S. for “abusing” tariffs and forcing countries into “reciprocal tariffs” negotiations. The ministry emphasized that appeasing the U.S. at China’s expense would ultimately harm all parties involved. China has also indicated its readiness to strengthen ties with countries that resist U.S. pressure and uphold multilateral trade principles.
