Colorifix, in collaboration with The Woolmark Company and FACOL – Tinturaria de Fios Lda, has unveiled a bio-dyed wool blend at Performance Days, demonstrating the commercial potential of low-impact coloration technologies.

The partners successfully dyed a 50/50 Merino wool and recycled polyester blend using Colorifix’s biotechnology at FACOL’s dye house. The yarn, supplied by FDG – Fiação da Graça, SA, was developed into non-compression healthcare socks by DUNEBLEU.

The collection features vibrant hues of yellow, blue and pink achieved without conventional synthetic dye chemistry, highlighting the ability of bio-based processes to deliver both performance and aesthetics.

Colorifix’s method uses engineered microorganisms to produce pigments and fix them directly onto textiles, significantly reducing water use, energy consumption and chemical inputs compared with traditional dyeing methods.

The showcase underscores a broader industry push to decarbonise textile processing and scale sustainable alternatives, particularly in performance wear where durability and colorfastness are critical.

The products are being exhibited at Performance Days in Munich across the partners’ booths, offering brands and buyers a first-hand look at how natural fibres and biotechnology can converge to meet rising sustainability demands.

The development signals increasing collaboration across the textile value chain—from fibre producers to dye houses and finished goods manufacturers—to accelerate the adoption of environmentally responsible innovations.
