Dr Sharif N AS-Saber, Editor-in-Chief of Fashion Business Journal (FBJ), has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Stamford University Bangladesh for a four-year term.
The appointment was made by the President of Bangladesh, who serves as the Chancellor of the university, under Section 31(1) of the Private University Act 2010. The decision followed a panel recommendation proposed by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Professor Dr Farahnaaz Firoz.
Dr Sharif formally assumed office on February 16, 2026, in the presence of the Chairman and members of the Board of Trustees, along with the university’s deans, department heads and faculty members.
An accomplished academic and international scholar, Dr Sharif previously served as a faculty member in the Department of Management under the College of Economics and Political Science at Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. Between 2023 and 2025, he was the Vice-Chair of the Middle East Chapter of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME).

At RMIT University, Australia, he held several senior leadership roles, including Associate Professor, Deputy Head, Associate Dean (Research and Innovation), Acting Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor and Acting Head. During his tenure, he established a sustainability-focused Master of International Business programme and led a cluster of the Jean Monnet Sustainable Development Goals Network.
Earlier, at Monash University, he served as the Founding Director of the MPhil (Industry) programme and Director of the International Business programme. He was also an elected member of the Academic Board. Dr Sharif has additionally held academic leadership positions at the University of Tasmania and Massey University.
He earned his PhD from the University of Tasmania, an MBA from Monash University, and degrees in Law and International Relations from the University of Dhaka. His research interests span governance, public policy, artificial intelligence, climate change, ethics and international business strategy. Over the years, he has secured competitive research grants, including from the Australian Research Council, and has supervised numerous doctoral researchers.
Beyond academia, Dr Sharif served in the Bangladesh Civil Service, including as a local government administrator, bringing valuable public sector experience to his new leadership role.
As Editor-in-Chief of Fashion Business Journal, Dr Sharif has played a significant role in advancing research-based industry dialogue in the textiles, apparel and fashion sectors. His appointment as Vice-Chancellor is widely seen as a milestone that strengthens Stamford University Bangladesh’s commitment to academic excellence, responsible leadership and global engagement.
