LyondellBasell, Polynt Develop Low-Carbon Marine Resin

LyondellBasell, a global leader in the chemical industry, has announced an expansion of its strategic partnership with Polynt, a renowned expert in specialty polymers and intermediates. The two companies are jointly developing a next-generation resin solution designed specifically for the marine industry, using LyondellBasell’s sustainable Styrene +LC (low carbon) technology.

The Styrene +LC product line is produced using a mass balance approach, certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS system. These resins are derived from bio-circular feedstocks, allowing customers to significantly reduce scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining the high-performance properties expected in marine-grade materials.

“Our +LC solutions offer a reduced carbon footprint compared to fossil-based alternatives, helping customers like Polynt meet sustainability goals without compromising on quality,” said Francesca Faranda, Senior Account Manager at LyondellBasell.

Polynt is applying LYB’s Styrene +LC to develop marine resins used in the construction of boats and yachts, offering superior strength, durability, and lower environmental impact. The collaboration aligns with Polynt’s broader strategy to lead in eco-design, material optimization, and circular manufacturing models for the thermosetting composites industry.

“By working closely with LyondellBasell, industry partners, and research institutions, we’re driving innovation that balances environmental integrity with market competitiveness,” said Maurizio Leonardi, Executive Vice President for Europe at Polynt.

This partnership reflects both companies’ commitment to delivering sustainable, value-driven solutions that support the marine sector’s transition toward a low-carbon economy.
