After an abrupt shutdown due to recent unrest that rattled Bangladesh’s export-oriented apparel industry, Pacific Jeans Ltd. has officially announced the reopening of its factory operations as of October 23, 2025, bringing relief to stakeholders.
The closure of eight factories under the parent Pacific Group at the Chattogram Export Processing Zone from 16 October aroused deep concern across the sector — with reports citing more than 35,000 workers affected and broader implications for Bangladesh’s image as a stable manufacturing destination.
The management stated the halt — attributed to ‘unavoidable circumstances’ — is now lifted, and all divisions have been asked to resume production in full. The notice issued by Pacific Jeans urged prompt return of staff and workers, and emphasized the need for disciplined functioning to restore normalcy.

Pacific Jeans, long regarded as one of Bangladesh’s most compliant and worker-friendly garment manufacturers, faced an unexpected disruption that many insiders believe stemmed from external agitation rather than genuine worker dissatisfaction. Several industry observers suggested that “a small group of disgruntled individuals” may have influenced the unrest, leading to confusion among workers.
Despite the incident, the company’s strong record on labour welfare, safety, and compliance helped it restore stability quickly. The reopening on October 23 marks a renewed commitment by both management and workers to maintain a peaceful and productive environment.
