International retailer Primark has released its fourth annual Sustainability and Ethics Progress Report 2024/25, revealing substantial gains in its push toward more sustainable fashion under the Primark Cares strategy.

According to the report, 74 % of Primark’s clothing units sold in the 2024/25 cycle are now made from recycled or more sustainably sourced fibres, up from 66 % last year. Within that proportion, 39 % of clothes now contain recycled fibres.

Progress continues on circular design and durability: 5 % of all clothing items sold are now “circular by design,” meaning they are designed to be easier to recycle at end-of-life. The share is higher in certain categories — 20 % of jersey items and 8 % of denim.

The report also indicates that all of Primark’s clothing, textile and footwear suppliers have been onboarded to its traceability programme — a step toward greater transparency across its supply chain.

On emissions, Primark reports a nearly 6 % reduction in greenhouse gas emissions across its full value chain relative to its 2019 baseline.

Commenting on the update, Primark Cares director Lynne Walker said the results demonstrate that sustainability and affordability need not be at odds: “We’ve shown that you don’t have to choose between sustainability and value.” She added that while the company recognises “there is always more to be done,” this year’s results point to the beginnings of “meaningful change.”

The report underscores Primark’s ongoing efforts to embed circular-design principles into clothing design and manufacturing, enhance product traceability, offer repair and clothing-care options for customers, and drive deeper emissions reductions across its supply chain.
