Mayer & Cie., a global leader in circular knitting technology, has introduced Control 5.0, its next-generation machine control system designed to usher textile manufacturing into the digital age. Available immediately for all new machines — and as an upgrade for models produced since 2001 — Control 5.0 enables seamless integration with the company’s cloud-based knitlink platform.
A New Era of Machine Intelligence
“Control 5.0 represents a major step in transforming our machines from standalone tools into connected IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) devices,” said Managing Director Benjamin Mayer.
“It brings our customers enhanced efficiency and a clear path into digital manufacturing.”
Built for Connectivity
Since the 1990s, Mayer & Cie. has been steadily evolving its control systems. With Control 5.0, machines now offer internet connectivity and cloud compatibility, enabling real-time data monitoring, remote servicing, and instant spare parts lookup via three knitlink apps:
-
my.monitoring – live operating data from each machine
-
my.service – remote support and diagnostics
-
my.shop – quick part lookup for registered machines
The system also supports over-the-air (OTA) updates, eliminating manual USB upgrades.
Two Interface Options: SmartControl and ClassicControl
Control 5.0 includes both hardware and a modernized interface. Customers can choose:
-
SmartControl (default): Features up to four “SmartKnobs” — mini-rotary displays on the machine for basic functions, while advanced controls are managed through a tablet or smartphone.
-
ClassicControl (optional): A central touchscreen interface housed in the same location as previous systems.
In both cases, knitlink users can manage production data remotely via role-based access.
Future-Ready and Backward-Compatible
All new mechanical circular knitting machines from Mayer & Cie. will now ship with Control 5.0. For existing machines dating back to 2001, upgrade kits are available. Given variations in legacy systems, the company provides a comprehensive checklist to determine upgrade compatibility.
