A two-day German textile-machinery mission to Egypt concluded on a note of cautious optimism as 17 companies from Germany’s VDMA Textile Machinery Association showcased advanced equipment and explored partnership opportunities with the Egyptian textile sector.
Organized by the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Egypt) with support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the delegation sought to promote cooperation, sustainability and productivity in one of North Africa’s most important textile markets.
The first day of the program took place in Cairo and opened with remarks from Ms. Katharina Jänicke of Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and Mr. Hossam Heiba, president of Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI). Around 140 representatives from Egypt’s textile and garment industry attended presentations and discussions in which the German firms highlighted not only their latest machines and components but also their ability to provide services, training and long-term technical support.

Participants explored topics ranging from energy-saving technologies and waste reduction to digital controls and data-driven production, with many German speakers stressing that value creation goes well beyond hardware.
The second day moved to Alexandria, where the delegation shifted from broad presentations to more focused technical talks and one-on-one business matchmaking. Company engineers, after-sales managers and training specialists held detailed sessions with Egyptian manufacturers on retrofitting existing equipment, modular upgrades, diagnostic systems and workforce development.
Egyptian participants used the opportunity to raise questions about cost, financing, spare parts availability and skills training, seeking assurances that any investment in high-technology machinery would be matched by reliable local service and long-term collaboration.

While no major contracts were announced, both sides described the meetings as constructive. German participants viewed Egypt as a strategic growth market at a time when global buyers are demanding higher sustainability standards, while Egyptian manufacturers expressed interest in pilot projects and training partnerships that could help them modernize production and remain competitive.
The mission underlined the willingness of German companies to act not only as exporters of equipment but as partners in building local capabilities. Follow-up discussions are expected in the coming weeks as firms consider memoranda of understanding, service agreements and potential joint ventures that could lay the groundwork for deeper industrial ties between the two countries.
