Five students from the Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX), National Institute of Textile Engineering and Research (NITER) and Bangladesh University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) have received the Innovation Black Belt (IBB) Certification from the Textile Today Innovation Hub (TTIH), recognizing the completion of a training and industry project program focused on practical innovation in textile and apparel manufacturing.
The certification program combined 128 hours of structured training with 128 hours of industrial project implementation. The initiative is designed to provide students with exposure to real manufacturing environments and technical problem-solving within textile production facilities.
Four of the participants worked on projects related to garment washing and dyeing processes. Md Tahsin Islam Toru (BUFT), Rominur Rahman Talukdar (BUTEX) and Nasif Ahmed Prattoy (BUTEX) conducted their project at Blue Creations Limited. Their work, titled “From PP to Planet: A Sustainable Denim Wash Transformation with Zero PP All In,” examined an alternative denim washing method that eliminates the use of potassium permanganate (PP), a chemical commonly used in denim finishing.

According to the project results, the proposed process reduced washing time from 277 minutes to 171 minutes and lowered water consumption from 5,650 liters to 4,450 liters. The project was supervised by Raju Ahmed Rajon, General Manager of Production and Technical at the company.
Another participant, Ashikur Rahman (NITER), carried out a research project at Denitex Limited titled “Impact of Fabric Composition on Ozone-Induced Discoloration and the Effectiveness of Chemical Interventions.” The study examined the causes of discoloration during ozone washing in different fabric compositions, including 100% cotton, cotton-spandex and recycled cotton blends. The work was supervised by Md. Saiful Islam Khan, General Manager of Washing.
These projects were conducted under the supervision of Md. Nasir Ullah, Country Director of Officina +39.
In a separate project focused on fabric technology, Md Abdul Ohab Shams (BUTEX) completed his work at South West Composite Ltd.. The project, titled “A Practical Method for Calibrating Knit Dyeing Machine’s Main Vessel Water Scale Through Calibrated Side Tanks,” explored a method to improve calibration accuracy in knit dyeing machines, which can affect dye consistency and reduce the need for reprocessing.
The project was conducted under the guidance of Shamim Rahman, Director of South West Composite Ltd., and Rahat Ullah Rashed, Head of Technical Support at Taiwan Persotex Corporation.
The certificate handover ceremony was attended by industry representatives including Ehsanul Karim Kaiser, Convenor of the Institute of Textile Engineers and Technologists (ITET) and Executive Chairman of Textile Today, along with other industry professionals involved in the program.
The Innovation Black Belt program aims to connect academic learning with industry-based technical projects within the textile and apparel sector.
