VDMA partners drive innovation in resource-efficient finishing and dyeing

German textile machinery maker Monforts, in partnership with Archroma and BW Converting, is advancing resource-efficient textile processing with new developments in sustainable fabric finishing and dyeing technologies.

During a recent webinar organized by the VDMA Textile Machinery Association, the three companies showcased innovations aimed at reducing environmental impact while enhancing performance and productivity.

A key highlight was BW Converting’s Baldwin TexCoat G4 precision spray system, which, when combined with Archroma’s chemical formulations and Monforts’ MONTEX stenters and Monfortex shrinking ranges, enables substantial savings in water and energy consumption.

Michael Schuhmann, Global Marketing Finishing at Archroma Textile Effects, said that conventional padding and exhaust techniques consume large volumes of water and require intensive drying. “Spray application significantly reduces liquid pick-up, enabling faster drying and production speeds of up to 100 metres per minute,” Schuhmann said. “As global fashion brands commit to lowering emissions, the textile industry must embrace safer chemistries and resource-saving processes such as spray application.”

Rick Stanford, Vice President of Global Business Development for Textiles at BW Converting, noted that Baldwin’s spray technology draws on offset printing precision, refined through more than 40,000 installations worldwide. Over 100 TexCoat G4 systems are now in operation globally, including 30 in Pakistan, where mills have achieved higher production speeds and reduced energy consumption.

Monforts engineer Saskia Kuhlen added that a TexCoat G4 system has been installed at the company’s Advanced Technology Center (ATC) in Germany, complementing other energy-saving innovations such as TwinAir, TwinTherm and CADstreamE variable nozzle technologies, along with the EcoBooster and Energy Tower heat recovery modules.

The collaboration is also expanding into dyeing technology, with the upcoming launch of Baldwin’s TexChroma spray dyeing system. The system will be demonstrated alongside Monforts’ Thermex continuous dyeing ranges at ITMA Asia + CITME, taking place in Singapore from October 28 to 31.

“We are excited to introduce the Baldwin TexChroma because spray dyeing is the future,” Stanford said, adding that a TexChroma unit will be installed on a Thermex line at the Monforts ATC in 2026.

Monforts will exhibit at stand A301 in Hall 3, and BW Converting at stand B201 in Hall 8 at ITMA Asia + CITME.
