HAMS Garments Ltd has set a global benchmark for sustainable apparel manufacturing after achieving the highest-ever score under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification, reinforcing Bangladesh’s position as a leading hub for green garment production.
The factory, located in Sreepur in Gazipur, received LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council with a score of 108 points out of 110 under the LEED Operations and Maintenance: Existing Buildings v4 rating system, the highest score recorded worldwide in this category, industry officials said.
“This record demonstrates that Bangladesh is no longer competing only on volume and cost, but also on sustainability and operational excellence,” industry sources said.

HAMS Garments’ achievement comes as Bangladesh continues to expand its portfolio of environmentally certified factories. Ecotrims Bangladesh Ltd (Unit 1) in Telihati union, Gazipur, and NAFA Apparels Ltd (Unit 1) in Kaliakoir, Gazipur, recently achieved LEED Gold certification, scoring 70 and 65 points respectively, adding to the country’s growing tally of green industrial buildings.
Bangladesh now hosts more than 270 LEED-certified garment factories, including over 100 with Platinum status, placing the country among the global leaders in sustainable apparel manufacturing.
LEED certification evaluates buildings on energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, and indoor environmental quality, with Platinum representing the highest level of recognition. Industry leaders say such credentials are increasingly critical as global fashion brands tighten environmental and climate-related requirements across their supply chains.
The garment sector accounts for the bulk of Bangladesh’s export earnings and employs millions of workers, making sustainability gains in the industry central to the country’s long-term economic and environmental strategy.
