BGMEA Seeks Policy Support in Finance Ministry Meeting

A delegation from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), led by its President Mahmud Hasan Khan, met with Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury MP, Hon’ble Minister of Finance and Planning, at the Secretariat on Thursday to discuss the country’s economic outlook and the future trajectory of the ready-made garment sector.

The meeting focused on the prevailing macroeconomic situation and industrial development priorities, with both sides exchanging views on measures needed to ensure the sustainable growth of Bangladesh’s apparel industry, the country’s largest export earner.

BGMEA leaders stressed that timely and targeted policy support from the government would be essential to help manufacturers maintain global competitiveness amid mounting cost pressures and uncertain demand in key export markets. They noted that the sector continues to face challenges linked to energy costs, financing constraints and intensifying competition from rival sourcing destinations.

The delegation underscored that the sustained expansion of the ready-made garment industry would play a critical role in strengthening Bangladesh’s long-term economic stability and resilience by supporting export earnings, employment generation and industrial capacity.

The finance minister acknowledged the importance of the apparel sector to the national economy and discussed ongoing government priorities related to macroeconomic management and industrial growth, according to meeting participants.

The BGMEA team included Senior Vice President Inamul Khan Bablu, Vice President (Finance) Mijanur Rahman, Vice President Vidiya Amrit Khan, Vice President Shehab Udduza Chowdhury, and Directors Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Faisal Samad, Mohammed Abdus Salam, Nafis Ud Doula, Mojumdar Arifur Rahman and Dr. Rashid Ahamed Hossaini.
