Bangladesh’s apparel industry is set to gather for a pivotal moment in its sustainability journey as the 7th Sustainable Apparel Forum (SAF 2026) has been officially announced, with the event scheduled to take place on April 27, 2026, in Dhaka.

The forum comes at a time when Bangladesh is navigating a new chapter of democratic transition, placing the country’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector at what organizers describe as a defining crossroads. Industry stakeholders say the moment presents an opportunity to align around a national vision that strengthens global competitiveness, accelerates climate action, advances circularity and safeguards workers’ rights.

The Sustainable Apparel Forum, launched in 2017, has evolved into one of the country’s leading multi-stakeholder platforms dedicated to responsible fashion and sustainable manufacturing. Over the past six editions, SAF has brought together policymakers, global brands, manufacturers, development partners and civil society to move sustainability commitments from dialogue to implementation.

Organizers said the 2026 edition aims to deepen collaboration across the value chain as the sector faces mounting global pressure over environmental compliance, decarbonization and supply chain transparency.

Bangladesh is the world’s second-largest apparel exporter, and sustainability has become central to its long-term growth strategy. The country already hosts the highest number of LEED-certified green garment factories globally, yet industry leaders acknowledge that further transformation is required to remain competitive in an evolving regulatory and market landscape.

SAF 2026 is expected to focus on climate resilience, circular production models, responsible sourcing, worker well-being and policy alignment in the context of shifting global trade and sustainability standards.

Since its inception, the forum has convened more than 220 global speakers and hosted over 55 panel discussions addressing emerging challenges and best practices. It has featured 70-plus innovators showcasing sustainable solutions and engaged more than 185 partners and contributors. Attendance has surpassed 3,000 delegates from over 32 countries, reflecting the platform’s expanding international reach.

Industry insiders say the event has played a key role in shaping discussions around renewable energy adoption, water stewardship, waste reduction, supply chain traceability and social compliance in Bangladesh’s garment sector.

The 2026 edition will be held at the Radisson Blu Water Garden in Dhaka, bringing together senior executives from leading brands, factory owners, policymakers, financial institutions and sustainability experts.

As global fashion brands intensify scrutiny over carbon emissions and human rights practices, forums such as SAF are increasingly seen as critical spaces for aligning expectations and developing practical roadmaps.

Organizers said collective commitment will be essential in the coming years, particularly as buyers demand stronger environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance while also seeking cost competitiveness.

With regulatory shifts underway in key export markets, including stricter due diligence and environmental disclosure requirements, Bangladesh’s apparel sector faces both risks and opportunities.

SAF 2026 aims to position the country not only as a volume-driven manufacturing hub but as a leader in responsible production and innovation.

Registration for the event is now open, with organizers inviting stakeholders from across the global apparel ecosystem to participate in what they describe as a critical dialogue for the future of sustainable fashion in Bangladesh and beyond.

As the countdown begins, industry observers will be watching closely to see how SAF 2026 shapes the next phase of transformation in one of the world’s most important apparel-producing nations.

SAF is committed to accelerating the transition toward sustainability within the global apparel industry. It serves as a strategic platform to promote Bangladesh’s apparel sector while fostering collaboration among leading industry stakeholders to address systemic challenges.

SAF works to bridge knowledge gaps by driving impactful initiatives that enhance awareness and help align sustainability standards across the sector. The forum encourages open dialogue and the exchange of diverse perspectives on critical issues affecting sustainability, circularity and traceability in the fashion value chain.
