Akij Textile Mills Ltd, one of Bangladesh’s largest integrated textile producers, has received TRUECYCLED certification, joining a growing community of manufacturers recognized for converting textile waste into commercial-grade recycled yarns.
The certificate, handed over this week, recognizes the company’s use of advanced recycling and spinning processes to transform post-industrial and post-consumer fibers into yarns for the export-oriented apparel industry. The recognition combines the TRUECYCLED framework with technology from German machinery maker Trützschler Group, whose equipment underpins Akij’s spinning preparation line.
With 27 years in the textile business, Akij Textile Mills has broadened its operations from pure spinning into yarn dyeing, weaving, and fabric dyeing and finishing, positioning itself as a single-source supplier of yarn-to-fabric products. The company is also known as one of Bangladesh’s leading producers of fancy and sustainable yarns.

Its recycling arm, branded RECLONE, turns textile waste into a range of yarns. The current portfolio includes 100% cotton grey ring yarns with up to 50% recycled cotton content, spanning counts of Ne 10 to Ne 40, and 100% cotton mélange ring yarns with up to 40% recycled cotton in counts from Ne 16 to Ne 34.
The company also manufactures 100% cotton grey rotor yarns containing as much as 60% recycled cotton, in counts of Ne 7 to Ne 20, along with cotton/polyester grey rotor yarns blending up to 80% recycled cotton and recycled polyester across the same count range.
Akij said its recycled materials already feed into fabrics, garments and everyday products such as backpacks, underscoring demand from brands seeking traceable, lower-impact inputs.
Representatives from both companies attended the certificate handover, including Akij’s Deputy General Manager for Spinning Units 3 and 4 and R&D, Md. Shafikul Islam; Executive Director Gaurangkumar Shambhubhai Baraiya; Head of Spinning-03 and Maintenance Md. Rayhan Kabir Jewel; Deputy General Manager for Spinning Units 1 and 2 Shariful Islam; and Trützschler’s Area Manager for Bangladesh, Marcel Peinelt.
The certification adds to a wave of circularity commitments among Bangladeshi manufacturers as global apparel brands push suppliers toward verified recycled content and lower-carbon sourcing, particularly for cotton and cotton-blend yarns used in mass-market denim, knitwear and woven apparel.
Akij said the RECLONE line and TRUECYCLED status strengthen its position as the country’s textile sector, long dependent on virgin fiber imports, shifts toward more circular manufacturing practices that reduce waste and resource use across the value chain.
