Hangzhou Kangsheng Textile Co., Ltd. is deepening its focus on high-performance fabrics as global apparel brands seek materials that can keep pace with surging demand for functional sportswear and athleisure, the company said Monday.

The Hangzhou-based manufacturer, which has built its business around outdoor and sportswear textiles, said fabric selection has become a decisive factor in product development as consumers demand more than a polished look from their activewear. Comfort, coverage, flexibility, durability and moisture management have moved to the center of purchasing decisions, the company said, pushing garment makers to lean more heavily on suppliers with technical fabric expertise.

Central to Kangsheng’s portfolio is its anti-see-through fabric line, designed to address a persistent complaint among makers of fitted athletic wear. Leggings, yoga pants and other stretch-intensive garments can turn transparent when a wearer bends or stretches, even if the material appears sufficiently opaque at rest. The company said its approach is not simply to thicken fabric but to balance coverage, stretch recovery, comfort and appearance, a trade-off that has become more prominent as brands scrutinize fabric density, composition and finishing before locking in production runs.

The manufacturer’s second core offering, polyester fabric, remains one of the most widely used synthetic fibers in sportswear because of its adaptability across knitting structures and finishing techniques, the company said. Polyester-based textiles are used in training apparel, running gear, team uniforms and outdoor clothing, with performance characteristics that can be tuned for quick-drying, easy-care or durability requirements depending on how the fiber is processed.

Kangsheng’s push comes as athleisure continues to blur the line between performance wear and everyday clothing, a shift that has broadened what apparel brands expect from fabric suppliers. Running gear typically prioritizes lightweight construction and sweat management, while yoga and fitness apparel demand stretch and recovery, and outdoor sportswear leans on durability. Team uniforms, meanwhile, require consistent color and repeated-wear resistance. Meeting all of those specifications from a single supplier has become more valuable to brands managing complex, international supply chains, the company said.

Batch-to-batch consistency has also become a bigger concern for apparel manufacturers running large-scale production, since variation in weight, width, color or stretch can disrupt cutting and sewing lines. That has increased pressure on fabric suppliers to maintain stable output while also offering customization on color, weight and finish as brands look to differentiate their products.

Hangzhou, one of China’s principal textile and apparel manufacturing hubs, gives Kangsheng access to a dense network of fabric mills, trading firms and garment producers that feed into international distribution channels. The company has previously exhibited at international textile trade events under the functional outdoor and sportswear fabric category, reflecting its position in the global supply chain.

Sustainability considerations are also shaping the sector’s direction. While polyester remains a mainstay of sportswear textiles, manufacturers and brands are increasingly weighing recycled fibers, production efficiency and material sourcing alongside performance, a trend the company said is likely to influence fabric development in the coming years.

Kangsheng was established in 2017 and operates as part of parent company K&M Textile.
