A delegation from a prominent Hong Kong business chamber concluded a three-day mission in Kuala Lumpur, calling the trip a “resounding success” after high-level meetings with Malaysian government agencies, business chambers and private companies. The visit came at a strategic moment as Malaysia holds the ASEAN chairmanship this year, reinforcing its growing influence within the Global South.
Throughout the mission, the delegation met with the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) and the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MICCI), discussing potential joint events and deeper long-term cooperation.
Talks with the Halal Development Corporation Berhad (HDC) also opened the door to halal-focused training programmes, particularly in industry best practices and capacity-building for companies interested in the global halal market.

A key part of the visit included a briefing at the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), where Balasubramaniam A., Director of Digital Exports, Industry & Ecosystem, presented the country’s revamped “Malaysia Digital Status.”
The initiative aims to accelerate the growth of Malaysia’s digital economy through flexible regulation and enhanced incentives. MDEC recently reported that approved digital investments under the Malaysia Digital initiative reached RM 16.2 billion between January and April 2025, and more than 6,000 companies have already been awarded MD status this year.

Delegation leaders said the mission reflects rising South–South cooperation, noting that Malaysia’s digital transformation aligns with the broader effort among emerging markets to strengthen trade and technology partnerships.
Both sides committed to maintaining the momentum established during the visit, with discussions underway for collaborative events with ACCCIM and MICCI as well as potential halal industry training sessions with HDC.
Participants said the mission was productive both professionally and culturally, with time set aside to experience Kuala Lumpur’s cuisine and attractions. The chamber said the visit underscored its commitment to building stronger ties in Southeast Asia as Hong Kong seeks to deepen its engagement with the region’s fast-growing economies.
