Urmi Group Earns Four Recognitions at ESG Excellence Awards 2026

Urmi Group received four recognitions at the ESG Excellence Awards 2026, highlighting its work in workplace inclusion, gender equity, sustainability reporting and climate action.

The group was named Gold Winner in the Excellence in Accessibility & Inclusive Workplace Design category for its efforts to create a more accessible and inclusive workplace.

Urmi Group was also recognised in the Excellence in Gender Equity & Women Leadership Advancement and Excellence in ESG & Sustainability Reporting categories, reflecting its focus on women’s participation and leadership, as well as transparency and accountability in sustainability practices.

In an individual recognition, Shamarukh Fakhruddin, Director of Urmi Group, was named Gold Winner in the Excellence in Championing Climate Action category for her leadership and contribution to advancing climate action within the organisation.

“These recognitions reflect the collective commitment of our people and the progress we are making across different dimensions of ESG. We see this recognition as encouragement to continue raising our standards,” said Asif Ashraf, Managing Director of Urmi Group.

The ESG Excellence Awards 2026 was held on Sept. 5, 2026, at Lakeshore Grand in Gulshan, Dhaka. The event was jointly organised by the UN Global Compact Network Bangladesh and the ESG Institute Bangladesh and was described as the first initiative of its kind in Bangladesh.

The ceremony opened with remarks from Abdul Awal Mintu, Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of Bangladesh. Ambassadors of Sweden, Denmark and the European Union to Bangladesh, along with the Managing Director of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, were also among the distinguished guests.

The awards were received on stage by Ashfaque Ahmed, Chairman of Urmi Group, joined by Biplob Barua, GM, Strategic HR; Md. Shahnewaz Khan, GM, Operational HR; and ABM Faqrul Alam, Head of Sustainability.

With recognition spanning both organisational practices and individual leadership, the achievement highlights Urmi Group’s approach to building a more inclusive, sustainable and responsible business.
