German thread manufacturer AMANN Group and Swiss material innovator AeoniQ have introduced AeoniQ Fil, a fully biodegradable, high-performance sewing and embroidery thread aimed at transforming sustainability in the textile industry.
The new thread combines AeoniQ’s innovative cellulosic filament yarn with AMANN’s expertise in industrial thread production, resulting in a product that delivers durability, strength, and machine compatibility comparable to traditional polyester threads—while being plastic-free and fully biodegradable. This ensures garments made with AeoniQ Fil can decompose without leaving microplastics, addressing a major environmental challenge in apparel production.
Industry analysts note that sewing threads, while small in volume, are critical components of finished garments and are often overlooked in circularity efforts. By replacing conventional synthetic threads with biodegradable alternatives, the AeoniQ Fil thread closes a key gap in fully sustainable textiles.
