Pakistan’s cotton sector is entering a new phase of sustainable transformation as leading stakeholders formalize partnerships to expand regenerative agriculture practices across key farming regions.
At a recent roundtable titled “Strengthening Pakistan’s Cotton Sector through Regenerative Agriculture,” global sustainability organization CottonConnect and All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) convened policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to align on the future of cotton production.
During the event, several Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were signed with major public-sector institutions, including the Agriculture Extension Department Sindh, the Agriculture Extension Department Balochistan, and the Central Cotton Research Institute Multan.
These agreements are expected to accelerate the adoption of regenerative farming techniques such as improving soil health, reducing dependency on chemical inputs, and optimizing water use in cotton cultivation.
At the core of this initiative is the implementation of CottonConnect’s REEL Regenerative Standard, which promotes environmentally responsible and socially inclusive practices at the farm level.

By integrating these standards, stakeholders aim to enhance productivity while lowering environmental impact, ensuring that cotton farming becomes more resilient to climate-related challenges.
The initiative also places strong emphasis on building traceable cotton supply chains. As global brands and regulators increasingly demand transparency and compliance, Pakistan’s textile sector is under pressure to demonstrate the sustainability credentials of its raw materials.

With strong coordination between government institutions, research bodies, and industry leaders, Pakistan is taking meaningful steps to transform its cotton value chain into one that is sustainable, transparent, and future-ready, with a clear focus on delivering measurable and scalable impact.
