German textile machinery manufacturer KARL MAYER has expanded its TM WEFT product range with the launch of a new 270-inch-wide weft-insertion warp knitting machine, aiming to help apparel manufacturers increase productivity while offering greater flexibility in fabric design as fashion trends become more diverse and fast-moving.
The newly introduced TM WEFT, 270″, announced ahead of the upcoming ITM 2026 exhibition in Istanbul, is designed primarily for fashion and apparel applications. The machine targets key textile manufacturing hubs such as China and Türkiye, where producers are increasingly seeking technologies that can support shorter production cycles, greater customization and higher-value fabric development.
The launch comes at a time when apparel manufacturers worldwide are under pressure to respond quickly to changing consumer preferences while maintaining production efficiency. Demand for fabrics with distinctive textures, transparency effects and complex stripe patterns has grown across both fashion and athleisure segments, pushing machinery suppliers to offer more versatile production solutions.
According to the company, the most significant upgrade in the new model is the expansion of the weft-insertion system from 30 to 36 weft ends. The enhancement allows manufacturers to work with a broader range of yarns, colours and material combinations, creating more intricate fabric constructions and visual effects.

The increased threading capacity enables the production of large-scale geometric patterns, alternating dense and open stripe structures, and seersucker-style fabrics created through the strategic incorporation of elastane. Such features are expected to appeal to fashion brands seeking differentiated materials for outerwear, casualwear and contemporary apparel collections.
Another notable feature is the machine’s ability to selectively stop the weft-insertion system during production. This function allows manufacturers to intentionally create openings or transparent sections within fabrics, adding both functional and decorative elements. The capability could support the development of breathable garments, lightweight fashion fabrics and innovative textile structures that blend aesthetics with performance.
KARL MAYER has also incorporated a multi-speed function that allows stitch density to be adjusted between nine and 30 courses per centimetre. The feature helps create stronger contrasts between opaque and transparent areas, enabling designers to achieve more pronounced visual effects and texture variations within a single fabric.
Industry analysts note that such capabilities reflect broader trends in textile manufacturing, where machinery is increasingly expected to support creative product development rather than simply maximise output. Producers are looking for equipment that can quickly adapt to evolving fashion demands while reducing the need for multiple production processes.
The TM WEFT platform combines characteristics traditionally associated with woven fabrics and warp-knitted textiles. By inserting weft yarns across the full working width, the machine can create fabrics that offer the appearance and stability of woven constructions while retaining the production efficiency and flexibility of warp knitting technology.
The new model is available in E24 and E28 gauges and can process a wide range of materials, including polyester, viscose, effect yarns and fancy yarns. Its weft-insertion system accommodates yarn counts ranging from 33 dtex to 500 dtex, while the knitting section can handle yarns between 22 dtex and 110 dtex.
Performance has also been a key focus. The machine operates at speeds of up to 1,800 revolutions per minute, allowing manufacturers to achieve higher production volumes without compromising quality. Fabric spreading devices and pre-winders ensure uniform yarn feeding and consistent tension control, helping maintain fabric quality throughout production runs.
The introduction of the TM WEFT, 270″ aligns with KARL MAYER’s broader strategy of strengthening its position in major textile-producing regions. Türkiye remains one of the company’s most important markets, while China continues to be a key centre for apparel manufacturing and textile innovation. Recent company initiatives, including customer engagement programmes and technology showcases in Türkiye, underline the importance of these markets to its future growth plans.
Fabrics produced on the new machine will be showcased during ITM 2026, scheduled for June 9–13 at the Tüyap Fair Convention and Congress Center in Istanbul. The event is expected to attract textile manufacturers, machinery suppliers and apparel producers from across Europe, Asia and the Middle East, providing a platform for the company to demonstrate how the new technology can help manufacturers respond to changing market requirements.
