BUFT Apparel Arena 2026 Begins with Focus on Industry-Ready Talent

The BUFT Merchandising Club officially inaugurated BUFT Apparel Arena 2026 with a grand opening ceremony at BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) on Tuesday, marking the beginning of one of the university’s flagship inter-departmental competitions aimed at nurturing future leaders of Bangladesh’s apparel industry.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Designated Vice Chancellor of BUFT, as the Chief Guest. Distinguished guests included Prof. Dr. Engr. Mohammed Rubaiyat Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Apparel Studies; Sabbir Ahamed Abir, Head of the Department of Apparel Merchandising and Management (AMM).

Also Farhana Jannat, Assistant Professor, Department of AMM; Md. Shahin Mia, Manager–Merchandising at Fabrica Knit Composite Limited; Tasina Sharmin, Senior Officer, HR & Compliance at Active Composite Mills Limited (Rising Group); and Omar Faruk Wazy, Merchandiser at Beacon Knitwear Limited attended the program.

Addressing the gathering, the speakers emphasized the growing need for industry-ready graduates equipped with technical expertise, leadership capabilities, creativity, and effective communication skills.

They encouraged students to make the most of such competitive platforms to strengthen their professional competencies and prepare for the evolving demands of the global apparel and textile industry.

The discussions also highlighted the critical role of stronger collaboration between academia and industry in developing a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and competitiveness in Bangladesh’s RMG sector.

The initiative reflects BUFT’s commitment to complementing classroom education with experiential learning opportunities that bridge academic knowledge with real-world industry expectations.

As Bangladesh continues to strengthen its position as one of the world’s leading apparel exporters, educational institutions are increasingly focusing on producing graduates who possess not only academic excellence but also practical industry skills.

Through initiatives such as BUFT Apparel Arena, the university seeks to cultivate future merchandising and apparel professionals capable of contributing to the sustainable growth and global competitiveness of the country’s ready-made garment industry.

BUFT, established to develop skilled human resources for Bangladesh’s textile and apparel sectors, currently serves more than 15,000 students across seven faculties and maintains a strong emphasis on industry-oriented education and professional development.
