A delegation from the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) visited BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) on June 8, holding discussions with senior university officials aimed at strengthening international academic cooperation and expanding engagement with Bangladesh’s higher education sector.
The delegation met with Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Vice Chancellor (Designate) of BUFT, and other senior officials to explore opportunities for collaboration in research, knowledge exchange and institutional development.
The ACU team was led by Professor Colin Riordan, CBE, Secretary General and Chief Executive of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and included Ikita Pokharna, Membership Engagement Lead for South Asia. The visit formed part of the organization’s ongoing efforts to deepen ties with universities across the region.
During the meeting, both sides discussed avenues for enhancing global partnerships and creating new opportunities for students and faculty members. BUFT officials highlighted the university’s commitment to academic excellence and its focus on industry-oriented education.

Established in 1913, the ACU is the world’s oldest international university network, representing more than 400 institutions across the Commonwealth. The organization promotes collaboration, capacity building and research partnerships among member universities.
The visit underscores Bangladesh’s growing importance in the global higher education landscape and reflects increasing interest among international organizations in fostering partnerships with the country’s academic institutions.
BUFT, founded by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has developed into one of the country’s leading specialized universities, offering programs in fashion, business, engineering and technology while maintaining close links with industry and international partners.
