Abstract

Since the publication of ISO 9001:2015, the manufacturing sector has undergone significant transformation driven by digitalization, supply chain disruptions, climate-related challenges, and evolving stakeholder expectations. In response, the proposed ISO 9001:2026 revision seeks to strengthen the standard by placing greater emphasis on organizational resilience, climate considerations, ethical leadership, quality culture, and structured change management.
This review presents a comparative analysis of ISO 9001:2015 and the proposed ISO 9001:2026 revision, highlighting the key changes across organizational context, leadership, planning, support, operational control, supplier management, internal auditing, and performance evaluation. The article also examines the practical implications of these proposed changes for manufacturing organizations, with particular attention to the textile and apparel industry.
Rather than introducing an entirely new management system, the proposed revision builds upon the existing ISO 9001 framework by refining current requirements to address today’s increasingly dynamic business environment. The findings presented in this review provide quality professionals, auditors, consultants, and manufacturing organizations with practical insights to support early preparation for the eventual transition to the revised standard once it is officially published.
1. Introduction
Quality Management Systems (QMS) have become an essential component of modern manufacturing, enabling organizations to consistently deliver products and services that meet customer expectations while complying with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. To address these evolving business realities, ISO is developing a proposed revision expected to be published as ISO 9001:2026. While maintaining the fundamental structure and principles of the existing standard, the proposed revision introduces greater emphasis on organizational resilience, ethical leadership, quality culture, climate-related considerations, structured change management, and enhanced stakeholder engagement.
