Annual initiative recognises academic excellence and introduces special honorariums for three SSC graduates, reinforcing the group’s commitment to education and community development.
Recognising academic achievement and investing in the aspirations of young learners, TEAM Group has awarded the Wahid-Kohinoor Memorial Scholarship 2026 to 36 meritorious students of Hazi Piar Ali School in Savar, adjacent to the group’s 4A Yarn Dyeing Ltd. facility.
The annual scholarship ceremony was attended by TEAM Group Managing Director Afroza Shaheen and Deputy Managing Director Abdullah Hil Nakib. This year’s programme recognised 18 students from kindergarten to Class 5, 15 students from Classes 6 to 10, and three graduates who performed well in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination.
At the primary and secondary school levels, awards were based on academic merit, recognising the first-, second- and third-position holders in each class from kindergarten through Class 10. For the first time, the programme also extended its recognition beyond the school’s regular classes by providing honorariums to three students for their SSC results.
The ceremony also received a brief visit from a high-level delegation from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, comprising Steven Collet, Vice Minister for International Cooperation; Wampie Libon, Ambassador for Sustainable Development; and Ambassador Joris van Bommel. The delegation visited 4A Yarn Dyeing Ltd., TEAM Group’s LEED Platinum-certified facility, to observe how investment and Dutch-Bangladesh partnerships are supporting sustainability in the textile sector. The delegation briefly joined the scholarship programme before departing.
Addressing the students, Managing Director Afroza Shaheen emphasised that academic achievement must go hand in hand with personal integrity and social responsibility.
“You have already proven yourselves through your merit and achievements. But beyond grades and academic success, what matters most in this era is becoming a better human being. Be good at heart, uphold your values, and use your knowledge to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Because it is good people who will build a better society and a better future for us all,” she said.
Deputy Managing Director Abdullah Hil Nakib described education as a meaningful investment in the community and highlighted the scholarship’s role in encouraging young people to pursue their ambitions.
“Education is one of the most meaningful investments we can make in our community. Through the Wahid-Kohinoor Memorial Scholarship, we want to recognize the hard work of these talented students and encourage them to pursue their ambitions with confidence. We hope this initiative will continue to open doors for young people and inspire them to contribute to their families, communities and the country,” he said.
For the recipients, the scholarship represents both recognition of their hard work and encouragement to aim higher.
“Receiving this scholarship is a great honor for me and a moment of immense happiness for my family. It makes me feel that my hard work is being recognized and motivates me to study harder and achieve my dreams. I am grateful to TEAM Group for encouraging students like us and giving us another reason to believe in our future,” a scholarship recipient said.
Investing in education and community development
The Wahid-Kohinoor Memorial Scholarship was announced in June 2024 by the late Abdullah Hil Rakib, founder and managing director of TEAM Group. The initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education and SDG 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities, in alignment with TEAM Group’s Sustainability Vision 2030.
Hazi Piar Ali School serves a community that includes many children of employees at 4A Yarn Dyeing Ltd. Beyond the annual merit-based scholarship, TEAM Group has supported the school and students through initiatives such as establishing a computer lab and providing stipends to help cover school fees for workers’ children.
With 33 students receiving scholarships in 2025 and 36 recognised this year, the programme continues to reinforce the importance of educational achievement while extending opportunities for young people to pursue their ambitions.
Through the Wahid-Kohinoor Memorial Scholarship, TEAM Group is seeking to make educational recognition a sustained investment in the next generation—not only celebrating academic performance, but also encouraging students to become responsible contributors to their families, communities and the country.
