BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) has inaugurated the Abdullah Hil Rakib Auditorium, paying tribute to the late apparel industry leader, education advocate, and former Member of the University’s Board of Trustees, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry and higher education.

The inauguration ceremony was held on the BUFT campus on Wednesday and was led by Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of BUFT and former President of BGMEA. A commemorative plaque unveiled at the venue states that the auditorium has been dedicated to the memory of Abdullah Hil Rakib (26 August 1971 – 8 June 2025), who served as a Member of the BUFT Board of Trustees, Senior Vice President of BGMEA, and Managing Director of TEAM Group.
The event was attended by members of the Board of Trustees, industry leaders, representatives of TEAM Group and other leading apparel companies, BUFT’s Vice Chancellor (Designate) Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, faculty members, university officials, students, and invited guests.

The program began with the unveiling of the newly named auditorium, followed by the screening of a documentary highlighting Abdullah Hil Rakib’s life, visionary leadership, and lasting contributions to Bangladesh’s apparel sector, higher education, and institutional development. The ceremony concluded with a Doa seeking eternal peace for his departed soul and prayers for the continued progress of BUFT.
Abdullah Hil Rakib was widely respected as one of Bangladesh’s leading apparel entrepreneurs and an advocate of industry-academia collaboration. Through his leadership at TEAM Group and his active role in BGMEA and BUFT, he played a significant role in strengthening the country’s garment sector while supporting the development of future industry professionals through quality education. The naming of the auditorium stands as a lasting tribute to his legacy of excellence, integrity, and commitment to education.
