BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) has added another milestone to its growing research achievements by securing the 1st Place Best Poster Award at the 4th International Conference on Textile Science and Engineering (ICTSE-2026), hosted by Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) in Dhaka.
Organized by the Faculty of Textile Management and Business Studies of BUTEX, ICTSE-2026 brought together leading academicians, researchers, industry experts, policymakers, and professionals from Bangladesh and abroad to discuss emerging developments in textile science, engineering, sustainability, Industry 5.0, smart textiles, and circular economy practices.
The conference serves as a major platform for strengthening collaboration between academia and industry and promoting innovative solutions for the future of the textile sector.
The inaugural session was attended by Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Hoque Milon, MP, Minister of Education, as the Chief Guest, while Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, joined as the Special Guest.
The conference also featured renowned international expert Michiel Kokken, Head of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs at OFI, Netherlands, among other distinguished speakers.
BUFT earned the top poster award for its research titled “Eco-Friendly Dyeing and Functional Finishing of Cotton Fabric with Clitoria ternatea Extract: Role of Terminalia chebula and Chitosan in Enhancing Antimicrobial and UV Protective Properties.”
The study focuses on developing sustainable textile processing techniques using natural materials. By utilizing Clitoria ternatea (butterfly pea flower) extract as a natural dye and incorporating Terminalia chebula and chitosan, the researchers successfully enhanced the antimicrobial and ultraviolet protective properties of cotton fabric.
The work represents a promising step toward environmentally friendly functional textiles and reduced dependence on synthetic chemicals.
The award was presented during the closing and prize-giving ceremony by Prof. Dr. Engr. Md. Zulhash Uddin, Vice-Chancellor of BUTEX, in the presence of distinguished guests, keynote speakers, deans, and conference organizers.
The award-winning research was carried out by a team from the Department of Apparel Manufacturing and Technology (AMT), BUFT, comprising: Ummelewara Bristi, Assistant Professor, Zumana Tasnin, Lecturer, Rafsun Nazif Fahad, Student (Batch AMT 232_2), Md. Mozahidul Islam Tasnim, Student (Batch AMT 232_2), Md. Soaib Rahman, Student (Batch AMT 232_2).
