A fire at a textile factory in the southern Chinese city of Foshan killed eight people and injured one on Sunday, state media said on Monday, according to reports from state television and Xinhua.
The fire broke out at 3:12 p.m. (0712 GMT) in a two-story building inside an industrial park in southern Guangdong province and was extinguished in about an hour, state television reported. The damaged building is used for production activities including denim fabric washing, and the fire did not spread to other areas, according to the report.
A social media video verified by Reuters showed thick plumes of smoke rising from the building. A slightly taller building nearby seemed unaffected.
Xinhua said earlier on Monday that rescue efforts were still underway. State television later reported that search-and-rescue operations had concluded. The cause of the fire is under investigation, the state television report said.

Authorities have not named the company that operates the facility or identified the victims in the reports, and the condition of the injured person was not disclosed.
Guangdong, which borders Hong Kong and Macau, is one of China’s main export-oriented manufacturing provinces, producing textiles, garments, electronics, furniture and appliances for domestic and overseas markets.
