Pahartoli Textiles Limited, a fully export-oriented spinning mill under Bangladesh’s Ispahani Group, has been awarded LEED Platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council, the company said, marking the latest in a wave of green-building recognitions for the country’s textile sector.
Production Unit-2 of the mill, situated at North Pahartali in the port city of Chattogram, received the certification for environmentally responsible and sustainable yarn production, according to a statement. The unit was certified under the LEED BD+C: New Construction v4 rating system with a score of 86 points.
Green Building Council Sri Lanka Chairman Mahendra Jayalath formally presented the certificate to Ispahani Group Chairman Mirza Salman Ispahani at a ceremony held on Sunday. Ispahani Group Managing Director Mirza Shakir Ispahani and Director Mirza Ahmed Ispahani attended alongside Chattogram Development Authority Chairman Belayet Hossain, along with bankers, architects and industry leaders.
The certification recognizes the unit’s energy-efficient machinery, use of solar power and sustainable production standards, the company said.

Founded in 1954, Pahartoli Textiles employs nearly 1,800 people across five production units and produces roughly 23,000 metric tons of yarn annually. About 70% of its raw materials are sourced sustainably. The facility includes a rainwater harvesting system with a 1-million-liter capacity, reuses generator exhaust gases, and maintains more than 12,000 trees on its grounds.
The award adds Pahartoli Textiles to a fast-growing list of LEED-certified facilities in Bangladesh’s ready-made garment and textile sector. The country counted 284 LEED-certified RMG factories as of this year, according to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, with 121 rated platinum and 144 rated gold. Bangladesh is home to 52 of the world’s 100 highest-scoring LEED-certified factories, industry data show.
Bangladeshi manufacturers have pursued LEED certification since 2011 as buyers and export markets increasingly weigh energy use, water management and waste practices alongside cost and lead times.
Industry representatives have said the credential can lower long-term operating costs even where it raises upfront investment, a trade-off increasingly common across the country’s spinning and garment mills as they compete for orders from sustainability-conscious global brands.
