7th Textile Research Conference to Be Held on October 31

Bangladesh will host the 7th Textile Research Conference (TRC 2026) on October 31 at the BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT), organisers announced on Sunday, highlighting the country’s growing focus on research, innovation, and digital transformation in the textile and apparel sector.

An online press meet marking the official launch of the 7th Textile Research Conference (TRC 2026) was held on Sunday, January 18, bringing together academicians, industry experts, researchers, and media professionals.

During the press meet, organisers announced that TRC 2026 will take place on October 31 at the campus of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT). The conference is expected to serve as a key research-focused platform for the textile and apparel sector.

The event will feature several academic and creative segments, including two competitive research events: the 5 Minutes Research Competition (5MRC) and the Research Poster Competition (RPC). These segments are designed to encourage young researchers and innovators to present their work in engaging and impactful formats. In addition, a Digital Fashion Catwalk Competition will be organised to showcase the integration of fashion, technology, and digital innovation.

TRC 2026 will be jointly organized by the Centre for Research & Innovation in Science, Arts, and Technology (CRISAT) and BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) to foster innovation, sustainability, and research-driven development within the textile and apparel industry.

The press meet began with a welcome address and background presentation by Dr Sadat Sayem, founder of CRISAT, who outlined the vision, objectives, and academic significance of the conference. He highlighted TRC 2026’s role in strengthening collaboration between academia and industry through impactful research initiatives.

Renowned media professionals, including Engr Md Atiqur Rahman Atik, editor of Textile Mirror; Akhi Akter, editor of Fashion Business Journal; and Rahbar Hossain, AGM (Business Development) at Textile Today Innovation Hub, shared their views on the importance of research dissemination and industry–academia collaboration.

The presence of distinguished guests further enriched the event. Prof Dr Engr Mohammed Rubaiyat Chowdhury, dean of the Faculty of Apparel Studies at BUFT, Engr Moslem Uddin, director (Technology) at the Bangladesh Jute Research Institute, and Prof Dr Engr A N M Ahmed Ullah from the Department of Textile Engineering at Southeast University spoke on emerging trends, sustainable innovation, and the future direction of textile research in Bangladesh.

Engr Ehsanul Karim Kaiser, convener of the interim committee of the Institution of Textile Engineers & Technology (ITET), emphasised the importance of professional collaboration and institutional support in advancing textile engineering and research excellence.

The press meet concluded with an address by the chief guest, Prof Dr Engr Ayub Nabi Khan, acting vice chancellor of BUFT, who formally welcomed the launch of TRC 2026 and reaffirmed BUFT’s commitment to supporting quality research, innovation, and global academic engagement.

The 7th Textile Research Conference (TRC 2026) is expected to bring together researchers, academicians, industry professionals, and policymakers to exchange knowledge, present research, and contribute to the sustainable growth of the textile and apparel sector.
